“Soy De Tejas: A Statewide Survey Of Latinx Art” At Centro De Artes Gallery

The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture presents Soy de Tejas: A Statewide Survey of Latinx Art, a dynamic art exhibition featuring over 100 works by 40 contemporary native Texas and Texas-based Latinx artists representing the seven regions and 15 cities. The exhibition, held at the Centro de Artes Gallery (101 S. Santa Rosa St., in Historic Market Square) opens on Thursday, Feb. 9 and runs through Sunday, July 2, 2023. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Between Yesterday And Tomorrow: Perspectives From Black Contemporary Artists Of San Antonio

Between Yesterday and Tomorrow: Perspectives from Black Contemporary Artists of San Antonio showcase the multifaceted talents of Black artists in the greater San Antonio community. Our diverse Texas city is rich in creative expression. Through this exhibition, these local artists share their culture and life experiences through their work. Contemporary art is made for the present time, and often speaks to ideas, concerns or experimentation of materials and methods. Artists were selected from across generations, bringing their voices together in the intimate space that is the City of San Antonio’s Culture Commons Gallery. The 18 artists presented in this exhibition are actively engaged in their artistic practices, and each brings their unique perspective; covering topics of Black history and identity, family dynamics, social connections, personal human experience, spirituality, and resilience. The artworks include drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, digital media, assemblage, sculpture, and quilting. The Bud Light Pride River Parade will have two showings, each with more than 17 colorful river barges. The first on the Downtown Reach of the San Antonio River Walk will serve as the closing event for the Celebration festival at La Villita. This exhibition will showcase the complex and beautiful Japanese art of bonsai with a variety of bonsai species on display in the Garden. This exhibition is presented by the San Antonio Botanical Garden in partnership with the San Antonio Bonsai Society which will be onsite to demonstrate the art of bonsai and answer questions. Bonsai trees will be available for purchase.

We are excited about the 3rd Annual SA Juneteenth Block Party & Fair. The purpose is to provide the Black community an opportunity to come together and celebrate freedom, love, and respect for our heritage with friends, family, and the community as a sign of unity.

Last year's event was a success in so many ways with an estimated attendance of 2,500. We have set a goal of 5,000 in attendance this year.

Our goal is to highlight opportunities and resources that are relevant to the Black community in the areas of education, business, and health with the help of our community partners, vendors, and sponsors.

A portion of the funds raised will go to support the educational and community efforts of the Dream Big Scholarship Fund, Inc.
